GREG SMITH
Head
Athletic Trainer for the Washington Capitals
Greg Smith enters his eighth
season with the Washington Capitals as Head Athletic
Trainer and his twelfth
season overall in
professional hockey.
Smith is responsible for all medical concerns
in addition to directing the team off-ice and
weight room workouts. Smith joined Washington
in 1999 from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, where
he held the same position, Head Athletic Trainer.
Smith's roots in professional Ice Hockey started
in Baltimore with the American Hockey League's
Baltimore Bandits in 1996. In 1991, Smith
started in the field of the strength and conditioning,
as the fitness director for Wicomico County Department
of Recreation.
Most recently, he has worked with world-class
professional athletes such as Paul Kariya, Jaromir
Jagr, and Teemu Selanne,
in the aspect of total body fitness.
A native of Bowie, Md,
Smith received his bachelor's degree in physical
education from Salisbury State University, with
a
concentration in both special education and athletic
training. He went on to earn a master's degree
in athletic training at California University
of Pennsylvania. This past year he also earned
his Masters of sport-science from the ISSA.
